Chick Corea/arr. Mark Taylor
HAL LEONARD PUBLISHING CORP.
Medium
Mark Taylor's chart on this early composition by Chick Corea starts with
the saxes playing the rubato opening, followed by a moderate tempo Latin/rock
groove. The main theme is stated first by a front line of alto, tenor and
trumpet before the entire ensemble gets into the act. The suggested or
improvised solos are for trumpet and piano in what will be a terrific introduction
to this composer for your players!
This little funk chart is energetic from
the first downbeat, and the energy keeps pumping all the way. Moderate
brass ranges and careful rhythm section notation make this chart very playable
for young groups. Aardvark Alley is flexibly scored so it
can be played with an optional instrumentation of as few as nine players.
Additionally, everyone has an opportunity to improvise in the open
solo section, and the set includes two suggested solos and a CD with a
solo practice track to facilitate a successful improvisation learning experience.
